About the course
Your horse responds to every shift in your body, your balance, your strength, and your mobility. When something feels off under saddle, the first instinct is often to adjust training, tack, or technique. But many persistent issues actually start with the rider’s own movement. This course walks you through the most common physical limitations riders bring into the saddle and shows you how to identify them in your own body. Inside, you’ll learn how weaknesses in hip strength, limited mobility, and poor trunk control can influence your position, and how those changes can affect your horse’s balance, responsiveness, and overall performance. You’ll be guided through eight simple self-tests designed specifically for riders. These assessments help you uncover asymmetries, tightness, and stability deficits that may be quietly impacting your horse. By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how your body moves in the saddle and where to start if you want to become a more balanced, effective rider.
Natalie Howard PT, DPT, CESMT
I’m Natalie Howard, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and equestrian performance specialist who helps riders improve how they move so their horses can perform better. With a background in orthopedic rehabilitation and years of experience working with both riders and horses, I focus on the biomechanics connecting the two. My approach combines human movement science with real-world riding demands. I work with equestrians to identify strength, mobility, and stability limitations that influence position in the saddle and impact horse performance. I believe that when riders become more balanced and controlled, horses move more freely, stay more comfortable, and perform at a higher level.
